Spotted in my Napa neighborhood: a deftly restored 1930s home featuring several easy-to-recreate elements. Two welcoming entryways, at the front and side of the house, give it a farmhouse modern look; a boldly colored front door adds a cheerful touch to the gray exterior:

Atomic Topless Cast Guard Sconce at Remodelista

Above: Benjamin Moore semigloss exterior Aura paint in Lime Green; a one-gallon can costs from $32.99 to $49.99, depending on the type.

Above: Benjamin Moore's Iron Mountain is a good choice for a gray exterior color.

Above: A 24-inch-tall Galvanized French Flower Bucket is $13.30 from Wholesale Flower Supplies.

Corrugated Siding at Remodelista

Above: Create a low-cost threshold with Lowe's 15.75-inch-by-15.75-inch Fulton Gray Square Patio Stone set in pea gravel; $3.82 each at Lowe's. For more walkway ideas, see "5 Favorites: Modern Stone Pavers."

Above: "Pea" gravel refers to the size of the stone; most local garden shops can provide a local source. Atak Trucking serves the New York area, and its site has a useful gravel calculator that works out the amount of cubic yards of gravel needed for coverage. For more paving, see "Eco-Friendly Paving Solutions."
